Liquid Resin Infusion (LRI) process has been developed in the Clean Sky JTI for the manufacturing of wing stiffened panels in composite material with the aims to reduce the impact on weight, environment and life cycle costs.

The PLIT project, Topic Manager (TM) SICAMB, provided a scientific approach to the physics of the this process by a “numerical simulation model” to study the resin flow during the impregnation. This model shall be used to identify possible causes of non uniform distribution of resin flow that may cause dry spots, poor saturation of the pre-form, partially filled composite parts, defects etc.

Innovative tools have been designed, starting from Members indications, and realized for the wing box stiffened panels tools manufacturing to verify the simulation results.
